Big Yellow Taxi - Room 303's Song Selection

Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
With a pink hotel, a boutique and a swinging hot spot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

They took all the trees and put 'em in a tree museum
And they charged all the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Hey farmer, farmer, put away that DDT now
Give me spots on my apples but leave me the birds and the bees (please!)

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Late last night the screen door slam
And a big yellow taxi took away my old man away

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got til it's gone
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
They paved paradise and put up a parking lot (3x)

Little Boxes by Walk Off the Earth - Room 209's Song Choice - by Gabby

This is the song that Room 209 chose for Rock of Ages/School of Rock! We chose this song because in the video, it reminded us about Cardboard City. I think the message of this song is, be your own person and don't follow everyone else. Because, "little boxes made of ticky tacky" means all the houses look all the same and it's good to be different. The song is kind of sarcastic, it's kind of teasing people for all trying to be all the same.

This song was written in 1962! Walk Off the Earth recorded it in 2012. It was 40 years old when they recorded it!

This is houses made of ticky-tacky.

Here is the video and the lyrics.

little boxes on the hillside
little boxes made of ticky tacky
little boxes on the hillside
little boxes all the same

there’s a pink one and a green one
and a blue one and a yellow one
and they’re all made out of ticky tacky
and they all look just the same

and the people in the houses
all went to the university
where they were put in boxes
and they came out all the same

and there’s doctors and lawyers
and business executives
and they’re all made out of ticky tacky
and they all look just the same

and they all play on the golf course
and drink their martinis dry
and they all have pretty children
and the children go to school

and the children go to summer camp
and then to the university
where they are put in boxes
and they come out all the same

and the boys go into business
and marry and raise a family
in boxes made of ticky tacky
and they all look just the same

there’s a pink one and a green one
and a blue one and a yellow one
and they’re all made out of ticky tacky
and they all look just the same

UPDATE: If you want to play the ukulele along with the song here is the link to the chords with the lyrics.
(Thanks to Fiona for finding one version of the chords and Owen for finding an even more simple one!)
